Heavily inspired by the world of Butoh dance and Polish Laboratory theatre the sculptures of Auguste Rodin and paintings of Francis Bacon, Sandford's solo work as physical performer and maker explores the human form in crisis, within dream and through artifice such as mask.

 

His research continues to stem from a visual starting point creating plaster masks, photographs, and sculptures which then proceeds to an inquiry through the body which seeks to unlock the subconscious in order to create larger physical expression.
